Vic Varjabedian, Talks About Humor During The Earlier 1900s. - Read And Enjoy!
Humor is my life. You might say Vic Varjabedian lives for humor. Without humor, Vic Varjabedian will be an unhappy person.
Humor has been around for a long, long time. Nevertheless it changes over time. What was humorous fifty years ago may not be humorous right now. Judge yourself. The following is a few of my favorite jokes from the earlier 1900's:
Humor # 1
Recipe for an actor:
To one slice of ham add range of roles.
Steep the head in mash notes till it swells,
Garnish with onions, tomatoes and beets,
Or using eggs-from afar-in the shells.

Humor # 2
The late Dr. Henry Thayer, creator of Thayer's Laboratory inside Cambridge, was walking around a street one winter morning. The pavement was sheeted with ice and the doctor was making his path very carefully, as was also a woman going in the alternative direction. In trying to avoid one another, both of them slipped and so they dropped in a heap. The polite doctor was seriously affected and his shame paralyzed his speech, but the woman was the same to the situation.
"Doctor, if you'll be kind enough to go up and pick up your legs, I'll take what remains," she said politely.
Humor # 3
A preacher had ordered a lot of hay from one of his parishioners. Around noon, the parishioner's little son came to the home crying lustily. On being inquired what the matter was, he explained that the load of hay had tipped over on the street. The preacher, a kindly man, assured the little fellow that it was nothing critical, and requested him in to dinner.
"Pa wouldn't be pleased," said the boy.
But the preacher certain him that he would correct it all right with his papa, and urged him to have dinner before going for the hay. Right after dinner the boy was asked if he weren't glad that he had stayed.
"Pa won't like it," he persisted.
The preacher, can not understand, asked the boy exactly what made him think his daddy would object.
"Why, you see, pa's underneath the hay," described the boy.
Humor # 4
Once William H. Crane was younger and less discreet he'd a vaunting aspiration to play Hamlet. So with his first profits he arranged his personal company and he left for an inland western town to provide vent to his aspiration and "try it on."
While he came back to New York several friends realized that the actor appeared to be much downcast.
"What is the matter, Crane? Didn't they enjoy it?" asked one amongst his friends.
"They did not appear to," laconically answered the actor.
"Well, did not they provide any encouragement? Did not they ask you to come before the curtain?" persisted the friend.
"Ask me?" replied Crane. "Man, they dared me!"
