As National Park Service managed all historic areas, on October 15, 1966, the Statue of Liberty National Monument, along with Ellis Island and Liberty Island, were itemised on the National Register of Historic Places
In 1984, the Statue of Liberty was included in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation's listing of World Heritage Sites.
